ACC Secretary-General Paid Courtesy Call on Minister to Prime Minister’s Office and ASEAN SOM Leader of Laos

On 3 September 2016,  ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Alounkeo Kittikhoun, Minister  to Prime Minister’s Office and ASEAN SOM Leader of Lao PDR in Vientiane. Mr. Chatoulong Bouasisavat, Deputy Director-General of ASEAN Department of the Lao Foreign Ministry attended the meeting.

Secretary-General Yang appreciated Lao PDR for its important contribution to develop ASEAN-China relations during the ASEAN Chairmanship and thanked the Lao Government for its strong support to ACC. She wished the upcoming 19th ASEAN-China Summit a great success, and believed the Summit would chart the future course and open up broader prospects for ASEAN-China relations.

Secretary-General Yang said ASEAN-China relations had made remarkable progress. This year marked the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations. ASEAN and China shall grasp opportunities to elevate functional cooperation to a higher level and forge a community of common destiny.

Secretary-General Yang briefed on ACC’s recent work, including organizing ASEAN-China Week, ASEAN-China Day Fair, supporting the 9th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, and complied the Facts and Figures of 25 years of cooperation. In the next few months, ACC planned to organize ASEAN Film Week, trade and investment missions to ASEAN, shooting tourism documentaries about ASEAN, ASEAN media reporting trip to China, etc., with a view to further enhancing cooperation in areas of trade, investment, education, culture, tourism, and media.

Minister Alounkeo commended ACC for its achievements. He thanked the Chinese government for the great support and valuable assistance to Lao PDR, for supporting ASEAN Community building and the central role of ASEAN in regional cooperation. The Lao side would as always support ACC, and would join hands with ACC to enrich the content, elevate the level and strive for greater progress of ASEAN-China cooperation, for the benefit of peace, development and prosperity of the region.
