On 5 September 2016, the World Philanthropy Forum, co-hosted by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) and Tsinghua University, was held at Tsinghua University. ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) was a supporter of this Forum. More than 400 delegates from the United Nations and over 30 countries, including scholars, NGO representatives, government officials, business and media representatives, and foreign diplomats in China, attended the opening ceremony. Representative of ACC Ms. Huang Ying, Director of General Affairs and Coordination Division, attended the Forum.
The theme of the Forum was “Emerging New Ecosystem, Transforming Philanthropy”. UN Secretary-General H.E. Ban Ki-moon sent a letter of congratulations to the Forum. He commended China’s achievements in the field of philanthropy, and wished the Forum a complete success. President of CPAFFC Madame Li Xiaolin, Executive Vice Chairman of CSCLF Mr. Qi Mingqiu, and Chairman of University Council of Tsinghua University Madame Chen Xu delivered opening remarks. They briefed on the works of their agencies and encouraged academic exchanges, experience sharing and innovation through this Forum, so as to contribute to the development of public welfare service.
Former Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Honorary Chairman of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce H.E. Mr. Huang Mengfu, Professor Lester M. Salamon of Johns Hopkins University, and Chief Strategy Officer of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Mr. Mark Suzman delivered keynote speeches. The Main Forum “Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health” was held after the opening ceremony. The participants had in-depth discussion on the topics of Global Participation, Participation of Society and Social Organizations and Participation of Market and Entrepreneurs.
