On 5 September 2016, after the opening ceremony of ASEAN Business & Investment Summit, a special ministerial session with Minister of Commerce of Cambodia H.E. Mr. Pan Sorasak, Minister of Trade of Indonesia H.E. Mr. Enggartiasto Lukita, and Minister of Trade and Industry of Malaysia H.E. Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, and ASEAN Business Awards ceremony was held. ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping attended the events.
The theme of the special ministerial session was “Complementing Regional and Global Free Trade Agreements”. The Ministers said that the realization of AEC was a milestone, which significantly promoted intra-regional trade and investment and propelled regional economic integration. With the improvement of infrastructure such as roads, railways and air links, ASEAN among itself and ASEAN with dialogue partners would have more cooperation and collaboration. TPP, RCEP, ASEAN Plus One FTAs and AEC shall complement each other. The Ministers were optimistic about ASEAN’s future, and were of the view that ASEAN would remain united, further deepen cooperation and contribute to regional prosperity.
On the evening that day, the ASEAN Business Awards ceremony was held. Chairman of ASEAN Business Awards Mr. Thanongsinnh Kalagna delivered remarks, saying that the Awards embodied ASEAN spirits of competition, justice and fairness, and were to award the youth, women and SMEs entrepreneurs for their contributions to social economic development. Deputy Prime Minister and Financial Minister H.E. Mr. Somdy Douangdy, Minister of Industry and Commerce H.E. Mme. Kmmani Pholsena and other high level officials of Lao PDR presented awards to the recipients.
