ACC Held the Evening for ASEAN Filmmakers

On 20 September 2016, the Evening for ASEAN Filmmakers, one of the series of activities by ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) in the ASEAN Film Week (AFW) during the 3rd Silk Road International Film Festival,was held at Xi’an Qujiang International Theatre. It was a special get-together arranged for the directors, actors and actresses from ten ASEAN Member States. Mr. Sun Jianhua, Deputy Director of Education, Culture and Tourism Division of ACC, Mr. Ruan Yonggang, President of ASEAN Finance Agency and ASEAN media and diplomatic representatives joined the ASEAN filmmakers in the gathering. Mr. Jack Neo, Convener of ASEAN Film Delegation and Singaporean film director, Ms. Tao Luoyi, Chinese actress, and Mr. Wu Jiong, Deputy Director of Asian and African Division the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, jointly moderated the event.

Deputy Director Sun Jianhua made remarks on behalf of the sponsors. He said that at the invitation of ACC, directors, actors and actresses from 10 ASEAN Member States had gathered at the ASEAN Film Week during the 3rd Silk Road International Film Festival with 10 films with ASEAN characteristics from each country to participate in the Film Panorama to showcase the achievements of ASEAN filmmakers and the development of ASEAN film industries. He expected the Film Week to provide a platform for ASEAN filmmakers to strengthen communication so as to promote pragmatic cooperation between ASEAN and China in film and relevant industries.

Mr. Jack Neo expressed his gratitude on behalf of the delegation to the sponsors, presenters and staff of the Secretariat of the Preparatory Committee of AFW for their  hospitality. He said that AFW had offered new opportunities and broader prospects for ASEAN-China film exchange and cooperation. He expected that all delegates could take this opportunity to get to know each other and pool all their wisdoms for further cooperation between China and countries along the Belt and Road.

Delegates of the ASEAN Member States introduced each country’s development in film industry and shared their experience in film making in a friendly and delightful atmosphere. They agreed that this event provided an opportunity for them to learn from each other and to extend cooperation in the future. They hoped to see more platforms like this to bring well-produced ASEAN films to China and to countries along the Silk Road. They looked forward to attending the ASEAN-China Film Festival in an ASEAN Country in 2017 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN.
