On 23 September 2016,the Mekong Institute (MI) delegation led by Dr. Narongchai Akrasanee, Former Minister of Energy and Minister of Commerce of Thailand, Chairman of MI Steering Committee and Dr. Watcharas Leelawath, Executive Director of MI visited ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) and met with Mr. Li Yuan, Director of Trade and Investment Division (TID).
Director Li extended warm welcome to the delegation. He said on trade and investment, ACC made continued efforts to achieve the goal of realizing the two-way trade volume of USD 1 trillion by 2020 and an additional two-way investment of USD 150 billion from 2003-2020, by publicizing the policies of ASEAN-China FTA, building up platforms for communication and cooperation, and facilitating business matching. ACC would like to strengthen its coordination with MI and push ASEAN-China economic cooperation to a new height.
Dr. Narongchai appreciated the hospitality of ACC. He said that MI was an important sub-regional platform for enhancing capacity building and human resource training. He appreciated ACC’s remarkable work in promoting ASEAN-China functional cooperation, and looked forward to strengthening communication with ACC and jointly organizing activities, to promote the in-depth functional cooperation in this region.
