On 20 October 2016, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping gave a joint interview to China Central TV and Suzhou TV on ASEAN-China relations and the exchange and cooperation between Suzhou and ASEAN.
Secretary-General Yang said that 2016 marks the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations and the Year of Educational Exchange, offering ACC opportunities to organize a series of commemorative activities. The consensus reached at the 19th ASEAN-China Summit to commemorate the 25th anniversary of dialogue relations drew up a blueprint for the development of future relations. The advancement of One Belt One Road building and the expedition of the joint construction of 21st Century Maritime Silk Road have further broadened the prospects of ASEAN-China relations.
Mme. Yang noted that Suzhou, in recent years, has maintained rapid development and reaped rich harvests from its exchange and cooperation with ASEAN countries, serving an important role in moving forward ASEAN-China relations. In the One Belt One Road construction, Suzhou is blessed with superb location advantages and faced with bright prospects. In 2015, ACC co-organized with the State Council Information Office of China the first reporting trip by ASEAN media to visit China on the theme of “Jointly Building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road”, which came off in success. As the first stop of the second reporting trip by ASEAN media, Suzhou had given the journalists a firm impression in their short stay. Their reportage would give ASEAN people a better understanding of Suzhou and add to the exchange and cooperation between Suzhou and ASEAN.
