From 23 to 24 October,the ASEAN media delegation reporting on the theme of “Jointly Building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road” visited Nanjing.
The delegation held an interview with Vice Mayor Huang Lan and relevant officials, who made briefings on Nanjing’s position in the One Belt One Road construction, and the status and prospects of its cooperation with ASEAN countries.
The delegation attended the First Silk Road Media Cooperation Forum hosted by the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration and the Publicity Department of CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee. H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), and Mr. Zhou Mingwei, Director of China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, delivered speeches on enhancement of media exchanges and cooperation.
The ASEAN journalists attended a lecture by H.E. Ms. Magdalene Teo, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to China, on Brunei-China and ASEAN-China relations at Nanjing Normal University. This activity, held by ACC, gave the reporters a full update on the development of ASEAN-China relations. Following the lecture, Ambassador Teo gave them an interview.
At the China-Singapore Nanjing Ecological and Technological Island, the management briefed the delegation on its development plan, citing that this flagship of the cooperation between China and Singapore is Jiangsu’s largest cooperation project with foreign countries only next to the Suzhou Industrial Park, with a projected investment of RMB100 billion.
Nanjing is the place where Zheng He’s historic voyages to the "Western" (Indian) Ocean were conceived. The journalists visited the Zheng He Treasure Ship Ruins Park, an ancient shipyard where the main body of ships of Zheng He’s fleets were built. This relics and exhibits in the park gave them a visualized idea of the prosperity along the Ancient Maritime Silk Road and the history of ASEAN-China friendly exchanges.
