On 23 October 2016, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) and H.E. Ms. Magdalene Teo, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to China exchanged views with Mr. Wang Chengbin, Deputy Director General of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education.
Deputy Director General Wang Chengbin thanked the delegation for visiting Nanjing and holding the ASEAN Ambassadors’ Lecture Series at the Nanjing Normal University. He also mentioned the development of education sector in Jiangsu province and its exchanges and cooperation with ASEAN countries. He cited that Jiangsu province has rich culture and history and attaches great importance to education. The Jasmine Flower Scholarship has further promoted educational exchange and cooperation between Jiangsu province and other parts of the world. Educational cooperation between Jiangsu and ASEAN countries has made good progress in recent years. There were nearly 4,000 ASEAN students in Jiangsu in 2015. Brunei and Nanjing enjoy close relations. The tomb of the King of Boni witnessed the time-honoured history of friendly exchanges between the two sides. Nanjing is the sister city of Bandar Seri Begawan, capital of Brunei. It is hoped that the two sides will make full use of the good opportunity to actively expand cooperation on education and other sectors. He also looks forward to continued strong support from ACC in this regard.
Ambassador Teo expressed appreciation to Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education and the Nanjing Normal University for their thoughtful preparation and arrangements for the event and expected that more ASEAN students would come and study in Jiangsu province.
Secretary-General Yang Xiuping spoke highly of the important role of Jiangsu province in advancing cooperation with ASEAN in such areas as trade, education and culture, and expressed ACC’s readiness to further facilitate educational exchange and cooperation between Jiangsu province and ASEAN.
