On 28 October 2016, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) met with Mr. Xiao Hua, Vice Secretary-General of the People’s Government of the Xishuangbanna Dai Nationality Autonomous Prefecture in Jinghong, Yunnan Province.
Vice Secretary-General Xiao Hua extended a warm welcome to Secretary-General Yang Xiuping and briefed her on the social and economic development of Xishuangbanna Prefecture and its friendly cooperation with ASEAN countries. He cited that Xishuangbanna Prefecture is connected with the Lao PDR and Myanmar by mountains and rivers, neighbours Thailand and Vietnam, and has close relations with ASEAN countries on the whole. Cooperation between them has produced fruitful results. Mohan port, which located on the borders of China and the Lao PDR is the most convenient land passage between China and Southeast Asia and a trunk for Lancang-Mekong cooperation. Xishuangbanna Prefecture will continue to leverage its unique geographical location and advance its cooperation with the Lao PDR and other ASEAN countries. It is hoped that Secretary-General Yang Xiuping will learn more about border trade and personnel exchanges between China and ASEAN countries through this visit and continue to support and assist Xishuangbanna Prefecture in expanding its cooperation with ASEAN.
Secretary-General Yang Xiuping gave a brief update on the China-ASEAN relations and the mandate and activities of ACC. She spoke highly of the important contributions made by Xishuangbanna Prefecture and Yunnan Province in promoting ASEAN-China relations. She mentioned that sub-national exchanges and cooperation is an important part for ASEAN-China relations. ACC will continue to facilitate cooperation between Xishuangbanna Prefecture and ASEAN countries including the Lao PDR so as to enrich ASEAN-China relations and inject new impetus to cooperation between the two sides.
