On 4 November 2016, the 11th World Ocean Week (WOW) was launched in Xiamen, Fujian Province. The 2016 International Ocean Forum and the 6th Ministerial Forum on Marine Sustainable Development for Developing Countries, as the major activities of the 11th WOW under the theme of “Jointly Building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road: New Vision, New Landscape”, were held on the same day. The WOW was hosted by Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, State Oceanic Administration (SOA), and the WOW Organizing Committee. Around 400 people, including officials and experts from the Governments of China, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Sri Lanka, representatives from Unite Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA), and other international organizations, as well as scholars and representatives from the relevant industries attended the forum.
As one of the co-organizers of the 11th WOW, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) sent a representative to attend the relevant activities to exchange views with the participants on strengthening ASEAN-China functional cooperation and jointly building the 21st Maritime Silk Road.
