On 8 November 2016, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), met with Ms. Hua Boya, Vice Mayor of Wuxi, and exchanged views with each other.
Secretary-General Mme. Yang Xiuping expressed gratitude to Wuxi Municipal Government for its great efforts in holding the Jiangsu-Southeast Asia Dialogue on Education Cooperation, and briefed on ACC’s functions and tangible outcomes in promoting ASEAN-China pragmatic cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, education, culture, and tourism. She cited that Wuxi, a city endowed with beautiful sceneries and abundant culture heritages, has produced many outstanding people. To accelerate “the Belt and Road” initiative, Wuxi had been developing functional cooperation with ASEAN countries, in particular, in the field of education. The cooperation have vast potentials and broad prospects. The training center, co-established by Wuxi Vocational Institute of Commerce and Hongdou Group in Sihanouk Special Economic Zone (SSEZ) of Cambodia, had trained 18,000 Chinese and Cambodian staff up to present and received wide appreciation. ACC would like to work closely with Wuxi Municipal Government in order to build a bridge for functional cooperation in the fields of education, culture, and tourism between Wuxi and ASEAN countries and with the hope of bringing tangible benefits to the peoples of both sides.
Vice Mayor Ms. Hua Boya appreciated ACC’s vigorous support to the Dialogue and active role in promoting ASEAN-China relations. She said vocational education in Wuxi was featured obviously, fully relying on industrial development trend, and offered lots of working opportunities to foreign students in Wuxi. Wuxi Municipal Government had decisive willingness to develop cooperation, including education, with ASEAN countries, though, bilateral cooperation channels were limited. It was expected that through the activities like today’s Dialogue, and under the strong support and guidance of ACC, cooperation areas could be further expanded, cooperation modes could be innovated, thus, the education exchanges and cooperation between Wuxi and ASEAN countries could be enhanced substantially.
