From 26 to 27 November 2016, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) arranged for a visit to Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, by the delegation of the ASEAN Committee in Beijing (ACB). H.E. Dato’ Zainuddin bin Yahya, Ambassador of Malaysia to China, H.E. Mr. Thit Linn Ohn, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to China, Mr. Nguyen Hoai Anh, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, Mr. Gan Teng Kiat, Consul-General of Singapore in Chengdu, representatives from the Cambodian and Indonesian Embassies in Beijing, and H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) joined the trip.
The delegation visited Chengdu Planning Exhibition Hall, Dongfang Electric Corporation, Jinsha Site Museum, Dujiangyan Irrigation System, Dujiangyan Base of China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda, etc. The field trip enabled them to get the first-hand information about the culture, history, economic and social development, exchanges with other countries and the development strategy and planning of Chengdu City and Sichuan Province. They exchanged views with officials and representatives from local government departments and enterprises on ways to further expand cooperation between ASEAN countries and Sichuan Province and Chengdu City in trade, investment, tourism, and culture.
Members of the delegation thanked ACC for organizing this trip and said that the visit in Chengdu, though brief, was informative, impressive, and useful. Sichuan Province and Chengdu City have a time-honoured history and culture and have remarkable economic and social progress. Relevant local government departments have strong interests in advancing cooperation with ASEAN. The ACB members expressed their readiness to continue to play an active role in promoting practical cooperation between ASEAN countries and Sichuan Province in economy and trade, tourism, and other areas.
