On 26 December 2016, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), met with Mr. Li Junfeng, Vice Mayor of Dongying City, Shandong Province. Mr. Chen Guangfeng, Director of the Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Dongying, Mr. Zhang Shichang, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Dongying, Mr. Tang Xinjun, Director of the Liaison Office of Dongying City in Beijing, Mr. Zhang Xuehai, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations Division of ACC, and other officials attended the meeting.
Vice Mayor Li welcomed the delegation and elaborated on the economic and social development of Dongying City and its exchanges and cooperation with other countries. He thanked ACC for its support in enhancing cooperation between the City and ASEAN. He said that Dongying City, with a favorable geographical location and full-fledged industrial layout, is strong in energy, chemical industry, rubber and agriculture. Its rubber tyre output accounts for one quarter of the national total output. Dongying City and ASEAN have a lot to offer each other and enjoy enormous potential for cooperation. In face of the accelerated adjustment in international economic landscape and transformation in national economy, Dongying City strives to seize the opportunities presented by the Belt and Road Initiative, give priority to the ASEAN markets and make good use of the platform and resources provided by ACC to deepen practical cooperation with ASEAN across the board as well as open up more space for the development of Dongying City.
Secretary-General Yang commended the fruitful cooperation between Dongying City and ASEAN and mentioned ACC’s mandate and its work in trade, investment, education, culture, tourism and media over the past five years since its inception. She said that as promoting sub-national exchanges is one of the priorities of the Centre, ACC will continue to strengthen communication and contact with Dongying City to explore cooperation possibility and contribute its share to Dongying City’s Going Global Strategy for win-win results.
