On 22 March 2018, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), met with Mr. Louie Wong Lok I, Acting Director of Macao Government Information Bureau, and exchanged views on ASEAN-China information and media exchanges and cooperation. Ms. Amy Ieong Pou Kam, Head of Information Department of the Information Bureau, Ms. Ines Lam Pui Cheng, Head of Research and Promotion Department of the Information Bureau, and Mr. Zhang Xuehai, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations Division of ACC, attended the meeting.
Secretary-General Yang stated that ACC regards promoting information and media exchanges and cooperation as a priority of its work and gives full play to its role of a one-stop information and activities centre to raise the public awareness of ASEAN-China relations and ASEAN-China practical cooperation. Since 2015, ACC has, for three consecutive years, invited ASEAN journalists to China to participate in the joint reporting trip themed “ASEAN-China Jointly Building 21st Century Maritime Silk Road”, and organized Chinese journalists to ASEAN countries to for in-depth media coverage. ACC also holds ASEAN-China Ambassador’s Lecture Series for ASEAN ambassadors to China to deliver lectures in Chinese universities and interact with faculties and students. Furthermore, ACC organizes media officials of ASEAN embassies in China and ASEAN media stationed in Beijing to visit Chinese news agencies and holds media networking meeting. In addition, ACC enhances promotion and publicity on various platforms such as its official website, Microblogand WeChat. ACC would like to enhance communications with Macao Government Information Bureau and facilitate Macao’s efforts to expand exchanges with ASEAN media community.
Acting Director Louie Wong Lok I mentioned that Macao Government Information Bureau is a special agency mandated to release government’s information. The Bureau serves as a bridge between the government and people and is committed to raising citizen’s awareness of the government’s work. Macao is actively engaged in the building of the Belt and Road and regards Southeast Asia as a priority region for cooperation. The Bureau hopes to give a full play to its mandate and actively enhance the publicity and promotion in Southeast Asia, so as to continuously raise the profile of Macao. In the meantime, the Bureau would like to help Macao media expand exchanges and cooperation with their counterparts in ASEAN through the Forum on the Global Chinese Language Media and other channels. ACC has undertaken various colourful events in promoting ASEAN-China media exchanges and cooperation. The Bureau hopes to explore cooperation possibilities such as organizing mutual visits between ASEAN and Macao media by means of ACC’s platform and resources.
