On 14 March 2018, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), visited Chinese Academy of Sciences Innovation Cooperation Center Bangkok (CAS-ICC Bangkok). Mr. Yang Xin, Minister Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Thailand, and Mr. Zhang Xuehai, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations Division of ACC, were present.
Mr. Fan Hua, Deputy Director of CAS-ICC Bangkok briefed on the Center. He said that the Center, inaugurated on 8 December 2017, is the first non-profit overseas organization of Chinese Academy of Sciences that promotes innovation cooperation between China and other countries and commercialization of the research findings. CAS-ICC Bangkok is committed to facilitating CAS affiliated enterprises, research institutes and universities to step abroad and deeply engage in the ASEAN economies in the perspective of commercialization of Chinese technologies, industries in Southeast Asia. CAS-ICC Bangkok will strengthen cooperation with ASEAN countries such as Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia in science and technology innovation, high-level technical professionals’ exchanges, and provide science and technology policy advice to support the regional economic development and industrial upgrading, so as to contribute to the building of China-ASEAN Innovation Community. The establishment of CAS-ICC Bangkok received great support from all sectors of China and Thailand especially the Chinese Embassy in Thailand. CAS-ICC Bangkok hopes to strengthen ties with ACC on the platform provided by ACC to play a bigger role in promoting ASEAN-China innovation cooperation.
Secretary-General Yang Xiuping congratulated on CAS-ICC Bangkok’s inauguration. She briefed on ACC’s mandate and major work and said that both ASEAN and China take innovation as a major step to promote the sustainable socio-economic development. ASEAN vows to realize an innovation-driven growth while China is pursuing a national strategy of innovation-driven development and build an innovative country. There is a huge potential for both sides to deepen innovation cooperation. The year 2018 is the 15th anniversary of ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership and the ASEAN-China Year of Innovation. ACC is closely following the cooperation priorities, injecting “innovation” into ACC activities in trade, investment, education, culture, tourism as well as information and media. ACC will hold an International Symposium on celebrating the 15th anniversary of ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership, ASEAN-China Belt and Road Business Forum, ASEAN-China youth forum on technology and innovation, etc. The establishment of CAS-ICC Bangkok came at the right time. ACC would like to enhance communication with CAS-ICC Bangkok, jointly push forward ASEAN-China innovation cooperation to produce more outcomes that benefit both peoples.
