From 19 to 20 June 2018, the 2nd Meeting of Joint Working Group on Cross-Border Economic Cooperation (JWG-CBEC) under Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) was held in Kunming, Yunnan province, China. Representatives from Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam attended the meeting. Upon the invitation of the organizer, Director Guo Chuanwei of Trade and Investment Division, attended the meeting on behalf of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC).
The 2nd meeting of JWG-CBEC focused its discussion on the implementation of the Joint Ministerial Statement among Mekong-Lancang Countries on Strengthening CBEC. The participants actively discussed and proposed cooperation on enhancing trade promotion, promoting trade facilitation and increasing trade volume. They agreed to continuously deepen cooperation on e-commerce and investment of cross-border economic zones. They reached consensus on the formulation of the Five-Year Development Plan for CBEC. The draft of the Initiative on Smart Trade Network Cooperation under MLC has been discussed. They agreed to further strengthen economic and trade cooperation, jointly discussed on the possibility of building the Mekong-Lancang economic development belt and the Mekong-Lancang community of shared future so as to render benefits to the people of the MLC countries.
During the meeting, Director Guo Chuanwei gave an introduction of the background, mandate and the work of ACC.
