On 30 April 2019, the “2019 Thai Festival Week” was launched in Chongqing. Mr. Chen Dehai, Secretary-General of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC),Mr. Li Qian, Director-General of Foreign Affairs Office of Chongqing, Mr. Ma Chengquan, Deputy Chief of the Government of Yubei District of Chongqing, Mr. Vithit Powattanasuk, Consul-General of Thailand to Chengdu, and representatives from consulates-general in Chongqing attended the opening ceremony.
Secretary-General Chen Dehai stated in the remarks that demonstrating the local customs and unique charm of Thailand, the Festival Week has attracted wide participation by the Chinese general public. It has become an important window to showcase Thai culture to the Chinese people and a useful platform for Thai enterprises to explore Chinese market. Moreover, it helps enlarge the circle of friends and boost mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.He believed that the Festival Week would further promote cultural exchanges, deepen understanding and enhance friendship between both sides and become a new bright spot in the ASEAN Year of Culture.
The Festival Week was hosted by the Royal Thai Consulate General in Chengdu. It presented Thai performances, promoted tourism resources, provided an occasion for business matchmaking and showcased high quality Thai products, services and food, so that Chongqing citizens could have an opportunity to explore the culture and charm of Thailand without travelling abroad.
