On 10 May 2019, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) successfully co-hosted the ASEAN–China (Jiangxi) Trade and Investment Promotion Seminar with Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangxi Province in Nanchang. The Seminar was organized by Alliance of Strategic Cooperation for Jiangxi Enterprises Going Global and was supported by Department of Commerce, Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Jiangxi Province and Jiangxi Federation of Industry and Commerce. Mme. Wu Zhongqiong, Vice Governor of Jiangxi Province, Mr. Chen Dehai, Secretary-General of ACC, attended the seminar among more than 300 people including officials of ASEAN diplomatic missions in China and representatives of Jiangxi enterprises.
On behalf of Jiangxi Provincial People’s Government, Vice Governor Wu Zhongqiong warmly welcomed all the guests attending the seminar. She said that ASEAN countries and Jiangxi are highly complementary and compatible in resources and industrial advantages. She suggested that the two sides should expand trade in high-tech products and services including finance, tourism and culture. While deepening cooperation on agriculture, the two sides should also expand cooperation on energy conservation, environmental production and urban planning. Jiangxi encourages more competitive local enterprises to invest in ASEAN countries, and welcomes more ASEAN entrepreneurs investing in Jiangxi.
Secretary-General Chen Dehai opined that ASEAN and China are enjoying geographical proximity and cultural affinity. The sustained development of ASEAN-China relations has brought practical benefits to the people of the region. Historically, Jiangxi used to be among the most economically and culturally developed areas in China. In the new era, it adheres to green development and innovation and is becoming a pioneer in China’s inland opening-up. The seminar aimed to provide a platform for ASEAN countries and Jiangxi to promote trade and investment policies and business environment, and help both sides to better understand each other's needs and make optimal use of their respective advantages for mutual benefits and win-win outcome.
In the session of trade and investment promotion, Mr. Ling Xiao, Deputy Director of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Commerce of China, elaborated on the upgraded policies of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area for the participating enterprises. Mr. Phoutsawanh Khounchantha, Commercial Counsellor of Embassy ofLao PDR, Mme. Donlaporn Ajavavarakula, Minister Counsellor of Royal Thai Embassy, Mr. Pham Trung Nghia, Director of Economic Division of Embassy of Viet Nam, Mr. John Paul Inigo, Business Consul of Consulate-General of the Philippines in Guangzhou, Mr. Azhar Othman, Deputy Trade Consul of Consulate-General of Malaysia in Guangzhou, and Mr. Fang Xiangjun, Deputy Director-General of Department of Commerce of Jiangxi Province made presentations respectively on business environment of the their countries and Jiangxi’s policies for attracting investments.
Business promotions were also made by representatives of AMATA Corp. PCL from Thailand, Bank of China Jiangxi Branch, Jiangxi International Economic and Technological Cooperation Corporation, Zhongmei Engineering Group and Zhengbang Group.
During the seminar, ACC and Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangxi Province also organized a field tour for officials of ASEAN diplomatic missions to visit leading local enterprises going global including Jiangxi International Economic and Technological Cooperation Corporation and Zhongmei Engineering Group.
