On 17 May 2019, the 4th ASEAN Gourmet Festival: the Harmony of Amazing Thai Flavours co-hosted by ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), the Royal Thai Embassy in China and Beijing Tourism Group was opened at Beijing Minzu Hotel. H.E. Mr. Chen Dehai, Secretary-General of ACC, ambassadors or embassy representatives of ASEAN Member States to China, former Chinese ambassadors to Thailand,representatives of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Ministry of Education of China, Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, relevant organizations and media attended the opening ceremony.
H.E. Mr. Chen Dehai, Secretary-General of ACC, H.E. Mr. Piriya Khempon, Ambassador of Thailand to China, Mr. Gao Fei, Vice President of Beijing Tourism Group and Ms. Xia Minhui, General Manager of Beijing Minzu Hotel addressed the opening ceremony. Guests tasted delicious food featuring classic Thai flavor made by Thai chef team from “Bangkok Bold Kitchen”, and enjoyed cultural performance of Thailand.
ASEAN Gourmet Festival is one of the major flagship projects of ASEAN-China Centre. It was launched in 2016 as a long-term annual project with food as a medium to showcase the cultural charms and tourist resources of ASEAN countries in China, each year with one ASEAN Member State as the theme country. Up to now, ASEAN Gourmet Festival has successfully featured Indonesia, Cambodia and Myanmar.
2019 is designated as the ASEAN-China Year of Media Exchanges and ASEAN Cultural Year. Thailand is the current ASEAN rotating Chair. The 4th ASEAN Gourmet Festival: the Harmony of Amazing Thai Flavours will carry on until 3 June. In addition to the opening ceremony, a cooking class called “Thailand's Street Food” for the public will be held on 24 May and the theme activity of International Children's Day will be held on 1 June.
