ACC Representative Attended the First China-ASEAN AI Summit and Relevant Activities (2019-09-09)

On 9 September 2019, the First China-ASEAN AI Summit and China-ASEAN Information Harbor Partners Signing Ceremony were held in Nanning, Guangxi. These events were hosted by the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Xinhua News Agency, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade(CCPIT), and Beijing Institute of Technology, and supported by ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) and other organizations.

Officials from ASEAN countries’ consulates general in China and government departments in charge of industries, representatives from international organizations, China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC), the State Information Center, competent departments of AI or big data of 11 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) in China, science and technology enterprises including Huawei, Inspur Group, iFlytek, Sugon, Alibaba Cloud and SenseTime, as well as expertsandscholars joined the events. Mr. Guo Chuanwei, Director of Trade and Investment Division (TID) of ACC attended the Summit and relevant activities upon invitation.

Mr. Chen Wu, Vice Party Secretary and Chairman of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region attended the opening ceremony of the Summit and delivered remarks. He said that Guangxi had been speeding up the development of digital economy to keep abreast of the trend of the times,playing an increasingly important role in promoting the two-way exchanges and cooperationin digital economy and AI between ASEAN countriesand China.Guangxi was willing to work with all parties to initiate a new stage in making new achievements and progress in the field of artificial intelligence.

Mr. Jiang Zengwei, former President of CCPIT and Honorary Advisor of CCOIC said that CCPIT and CCOIC would continueto support China-ASEANcooperation in AIandprovide services to facilitate corporate exchange, business matching and industrial cooperation between the two sides so as to better promote ASEAN-China economic and trade cooperation.

Mr. Chairat Porntipwarawet, Consul-General of Thailand in Nanning, Mr. Liu Zhengrong, Vice President of Xinhua News Agency, and Mr Li Hui, Deputy Director-General of the Office of Government Information and Affairs Disclosure of the General Office of the State Council also delivered remarks. The Launching Ceremony of China-ASEAN Financial Service Platform, the China-ASEAN Information Harbor Partner Signing Ceremony, Guangxi New Smart City Cooperation Project Release and Award Ceremony of Tianchi Big Data Competition were held at the summit.

After the opening ceremony, experts, scholars and representatives of enterprises delivered speeches at sub-forums to discuss the development and application of AI technology in the fields of smart government, smart life, 5G technology and smart manufacturing. Director Guo Chuanwei attended the sub-forum “Smart Era and 5G” held by Huawei and exchanged views with the participants.
