From 15 to 19 October 2019, Mr. Chen Dehai, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), attended the ASEAN-Korea Train: Advancing Together program organised by ASEAN-Korea Centre upon invitation. ROK Foreign Minister Ms. Kang Kyung-wha and some other government officials, Union Minister for Information of Myanmar Dr. Pe Myint and government officials from other ASEAN Member States (AMS), AMS diplomatic envoys to ROK, scholars, entrepreneurs, artists, media and youth representatives from both sides, totally around 200 participants attended the event.
ROK Foreign Minister Ms. Kang Kyung-wha stated that over the past 30 years since the establishment of ASEAN-ROK Dialogue Relations, the two sides have made remarkable achievements in cooperation across the board. President Moon Jae-in’s New Southern Policy aims to elevate partnership to a higher level, based on the three pillars of People, Prosperity, and Peace. The ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit 2019 will be held from 25 to 27 November in Busan, which is expected to further deepen cooperation between the two sides.
Myanmar Union Minister for Information Dr. Pe Myint spoke on behalf of the ASEAN side that ASEAN and ROK has seen closer ties since the partnership was established 30 years ago, while development of cooperation has achieved significant success. Leaders from both sides are committed to deepening practical cooperation and exchanges. The ASEAN side appreciated the New Southern Policy initiated by President Moon Jae-in, which could enhance the sustainable cooperation between the two sides in various sectors. The ASEAN-Korea Train tour is expected to deepen cooperation, friendship and people-to-people exchanges between ASEAN and ROK.
Participants of the programme set off from Seoul on 16 October to visit main cities of ROK, namely Gyeongju, Busan, Suncheon, Gwangju. They participated in various promotion and exchange activities featured the theme of People, Prosperity and Peace.
Secretary-General Chen Dehai exchanged view on deepening cooperation and exchanges with ASEAN-Korea Centre Secretary-General Mr. Lee Hyuk, ASEAN-Japan Centre Secretary-General Mr. Masataka Fujita and other distinguished guests from AMS during his visit.
