On 10 October 2019, the 2019 Joint Executive Board (JEB) Meeting of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) was held in Meishan City, Sichuan Province. The Meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Mongkol Visitstump, Minister of the Royal Thai Embassy in China, on behalf of the rotating chair of ASEAN and Mme. Mao Ning, Deputy Director-General of Department of Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. Attendants included Ambassador Myo Thant Pe of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Ambassador Mr. Raja Nushirwan Bin Zainal Abidin of Malaysia to China, representatives from the other ASEAN Member States embassies, members of JEB China council, and officials of the ACC Secretariat.
The JEB members highly commended ACC’s great efforts and achievements in promoting friendly exchanges and practical cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture, tourism, information and media to echo the theme of ASEAN-China Year of Media Exchanges. The upcoming 22nd ASEAN-China Summit in Bangkok will issue a series of important documents, which will further deepen the overall development of ASEAN-China relations. All members expected that ACC would continue to play the key bridging role, follow the “ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership Vision 2030” and perfect the 2020 work programme to echo the theme of ASEAN-China Year of Digital Economy Cooperation, so as to make new contributions to the development of ASEAN-China strategic partnership.
ACC Secretary-General Chen Dehai expressed appreciation to the JEB members for their long-standing support and contribution of new thoughts, new ideas and new suggestions to the work of ACC Secretariat. He said that ACC would continue to actively implement the important consensus reached by leaders of ASEAN Member States and China, and strive for solid progress of friendly exchanges and practical cooperation in areas of common interests. By maintaining close contacts with the JEB members, the ACC Secretariat would press ahead to play an even bigger role in deepening ASEAN-China relations.
The JEB members listened to the work report of ACC since the previous JEB meeting, and deliberated on the ACC Draft Annual Report of 2019, ACC Draft Work Programme of 2020, Draft Proposed Budget of 2020 and other related matters. The above-mentioned documents will be submitted to the 2019 Joint Council Meeting of ACC for further consideration.
From 10 to 12 September, the JEB members listened to briefings on the development of economy, trade, culture and tourism in Meishan City, visited the Agricultural Science and Technology Park, Sansu Memorial Museum, China Bamboo Weaving Art Museum, Liujiang Ancient Town and Mount E’mei, and had extensive exchanges with the municipal governments of Meishan City and Leshan City, with an view to better understanding the history, culture, social and economic development of Sichuan Province.
