On November 23 2019, the ASEAN-China Digital Economy Industry Forum (GCCAC), co-hosted by ASEAN-China Center (ACC), People Daily Online, Global Times, and organized by the Chinese Private Technology Entrepreneur Association and the Beijing Raysdata Co., Ltd., was successfully held at the Beijing International Convention Center. Mr. Guo Chuanwei, Director of the Trade and Investment Division of ACC, Mr. Zhu Defu, Secretary-General of the Beijing Private Technology Entrepreneur Association, Mr. Shi Ding, Executive Editor-in-chief of Global Times Online, and Mr. Xie Bing, Vice Chairman of the Chia Tai Group attended and addressed the forum. About 200 representatives from embassies of ASEAN countries in China, international organizations, Chinese and foreign business associations, enterprises and media, as well as experts and scholars attended the forum.
In his speech, Mr. Guo Chuanwei said that at the 22nd ASEAN-China Summit held in Bangkok, Thailand this month, the two sides designated the year 2020 as the ASEAN-China Year of Digital Economy Cooperation, which pointed out the direction for future cooperation between the two sides. In recent years, more and more Chinese artificial intelligence companies have set foot towards the south to carry out cooperation in e-commerce, digital trade, 5G networks and so on. ASEAN-China digital economy cooperation is becoming increasingly active. There is a strong demand for business cooperation, and huge potential for further development. The digital economy dialogue mechanism between China and ASEAN countries is also being established gradually. At present, China and Thailand have established a ministerial level dialogue mechanism for digital economy cooperation and held its first meeting in March 2019. China has also signed e-commerce cooperation MoU with Cambodia and Viet Nam. With the deepening of ASEAN-China cooperation in all respects, the digital economy industry is bound to become an important area for cooperation.
Mr. Zhu Defu said that ASEAN is a close neighbor of China and he hoped that entrepreneurs from both sides would work together to seize new opportunities for digital development, promote application of information technology, and jointly accumulate international competitive advantages to achieve leapfrog development.
Mr. Shi Ding said that in recent years, China-ASEAN political mutual trust has been deepened, and practical cooperation in various fields has achieved positive results. Global Times Online would leverage advantages of the media, and have closer cooperation with ASEAN countries to contribute to deepening cooperation between China and ASEAN countries.
At the forum, economic and business counsellors from the embassies of Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines and Viet Nam briefed on the current status of digital economy development, trade and investment environment, and relevant investment promotion policies in their respective countries, which received warm response. Representatives from Chia Tai Group, Legal Research Center of Tencent Research Institute, Qi An Xin Group, Cultural Big Data Engineering Center of the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Beijing Raysdata Co., Ltd. delivered keynote speeches respectively.
