Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a celebration that marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadhan. It is a time of joy, and also of solemnness. Besides its festivities, it is also when the departed loved ones are especially remembered. Muslims all over the country will visit cemeteries at which holy Quranic verses were recited and prayers performed.
During the eve of Raya, the Takbir Raya reverberated at mosques and suraus throughout the country where the main focus is at the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque.
On the day of the celebration, around 7 in the morning, muslim subjects again gather overflowing mosques and suraus across the country to perform the Aidilfitri prayer.
Every year thousands of Muslims and people from all over will have the chance to convey Hari Raya Aidilfitri personally to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam during a three-day meet and greet at Istana Nurul Iman starting from the second day of the festival.
Hari Raya have always been a festive that everyone is looking forward for every year as family, friends can come/ get together. It’s always a joy for a family to have this reunion with children and their grand-children. The duit Raya and kuih are secondary to having the family together again.
Hari Raya Aidilfitri is celebrated throughout the month of Syawal. Although the holiday is coming to an end, yet celebrations are still being held in many parts of the country by various ministries, organizations and even personal. Opened offices and houses is the most common practices in Brunei during this festive month where food, sweets as well as other delicacies being served for visitors coming over to greet Hari Raya.
