On 18 May 2020, Mr. Chen Dehai, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) met with Mr. Djauhari Oratmangun, Ambassador of Indonesian to China.
Ambassador Djauhari said that since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia and China have maintained close contact and frequent phone conversations at top level. President Joko said to President Xi Jinping that Indonesia would stand firmly by the Chinese people and that he was firmly convinced that China would defeat the pandemic at an early date under the leadership of President Xi. Ambassador Djauhari highly commended and congratulated on China’s remarkable achievements, and expressed his gratitude to China for sharing anti-pandemic experience with and providing medical supplies to Indonesia. This year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Indonesia and China. Some celebrating activities may have to be rescheduled due to the impact of the pandemic. The Indonesian side will work closely with relevant authorities on the Chinese side to make sure the success of those activities and expects ACC’s continuous strong support.
Secretary-General Chen Dehai said that a friend in need is a friend in deed. China, Indonesia and other ASEAN countries have worked in solidarity against the pandemic, which manifests the profound friendship of mutual assistance through thick and thin between the two sides. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, Ambassador Djauhari had given many interviews to Chinese and foreign media, in which he conveyed firm resolve and strong belief in winning the battle against the pandemic through solidarity and cooperation between ASEAN and China. While working on an ongoing basis to contain the virus, ACC is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with the embassies of ASEAN countries, including that of Indonesia, and take flexible measures to conduct cooperation and exchanges in various areas in a prudent and orderly manner. ACC would actively support Chinese and Indonesian governments in carrying out the activities celebrating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties to further advance the China-Indonesian comprehensive strategic partnership.
Ms. Wang Hongliu, Director of General Affairs and Coordination Division, Mr. Guo Chuanwei, Director of Trade and Investment Division, Ms. Zhou Hui, Deputy Director of Education, Culture and Tourism Division, Mr. He Fei, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations Division of ACC as well as Mr. Arianto Surojo, Counsellor of Educational and Social Affairs of Indonesian Embassy attended the meeting.
