On 8 April 2021, the opening ceremony of the International Horticultural Exposition 2021 (Yangzhou Expo) was held in Zaolin Bay, Yizheng. The ASEAN female diplomats delegation, organized by the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), attended the opening ceremony upon invitation.
Mr. Cao Jianming, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China declared the opening of the Yangzhou Expo. Mr. Wu Zhenglong, Deputy Secretary of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Governor of Jiangsu Province, Ms. Jiang Zehui, Co-Chair of the Board of Trustees of the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (INBAR) and President of China Flower Association, Mr. Peng Youdong, Deputy Director-General of National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China and Mr. Xia Xinmin, Secretary of CPC Yangzhou Municipal Committee, gave keynote speeches. Mr. Bernard Oosterom, President of the International Association of Horticultural Producers(AIPH) sent a congratulatory message via video.
The Yangzhou Expo covers a total area of 230 hectares with 64 outdoor exhibition parks, including 26 parks for domestic cities and enterprises, 25 for foreign cities or international organization and 13 for Jiangsu cities. The overall structure layout is “one axis, two veins, five cores and eight areas”, which demonstrates the beauty of Green, Nature and Culture.
The female diplomats from ASEAN Member States (AMS) watched the art performances at the opening ceremony with great interest, and unveiled the Bangkok Gardentogether with Mr. Arthayudh Srisamoot, Ambassador of Thailand to China and his spouse. The delegation also visited the International Pavilion and other outdoor exhibition parks. Mrs. Sih Elsiwi Handayani Oratmangun, Spouse of Indonesian Ambassador to China, met with some Indonesian students who served as volunteers at the Expo.
On the evening of 7 April, the delegation, along with all other delegations to the Expo, attended the gala dinner hosted by the Yangzhou Municipal Government.
During their stay in Yangzhou, the delegation also visited the Malaysia invested PERFECT Co., Ltd (Yangzhou), Yangzhou Ge Garden, Slender West Lake and experienced potted landscape making and Guzheng performances which helped the delegates to learn more about the local history and Chinese culture.
