On 10 May 2023, H.E. Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) met with the Asia-Pacific media delegation. The delegation comprised of media representatives from the ASEAN Member States, including Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar and the Philippines, as well as Asia-Pacific countries, such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and the Solomon Islands.
Secretary General Shi said the Asia-Pacific has witnessed constantly deepening cooperation, and the region is the most dynamic growth belt in the world. Under the current situation, the countries of the region should follow the spirit of the Asia-Pacific family, uphold international fairness and justice, and jointly build an Asia-Pacific of peace and stability, injecting more certainty into global development and prosperity. The media should serve as bridges for communication, tell well the stories of ASEAN-China cooperation and Asia-Pacific common development, and enhance the mutual understanding and trust among the people of the region. The ACC has always been committed to promoting ASEAN-China media exchange and cooperation and will continue to serve the media that care about ASEAN-China cooperation, so as to continue making contribution to the promotion of ASEAN-China relations.
Both sides exchanged ideas on strengthening cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, especially between ASEAN and China in areas such as trade, education, culture, tourism, youth and media. The members of the delegation thanked the ACC for organizing this event and emphasised the importance of communication in enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation. They are willing to pay more attention to and participate in the events organised by the ACC, and work together to promote greater progress in ASEAN-China friendship and cooperation.
