From 9 to 11 November 2023, H.E. Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), Ambassador U Tin Maung Swe of Myanmar to China and his wife Mi Mi Maw visited Hubei Province and held the “Lecture Series on ASEAN-China Relations” in Wuhan University.
On 9 November, Vice Governor Chen Ping of Hubei Province met with Secretary General Shi Zhongjun and Ambassador U Tin Maung Swe and exchanged views on deepening practical cooperation. Vice Governor Chen said that ASEAN has become the largest trading partner of Hubei, and Hubei's trade volume to Myanmar has been increasing. She expressed hope that Hubei would step up cooperation with Myanmar and other ASEAN Member States (AMS) in industry and agriculture, expand the scale of trade and investment, and facilitate cultural exchanges and mutual learning. Hubei is willing to work with the ACC to joint organize more friendly exchanges towards AMS.
Ambassador U Tin Maung Swe said that Myanmar and Hubei enjoy long-lasting interactions and close cooperation. Hubei boasts sound environment and vigorous momentum for development, and has unique advantages in education and scientific research, which provides full potential for exchanges and cooperation with Myanmar. Myanmar is willing to expand the scope of cooperation with Hubei to jointly achieve more fruitful results.
Secretary General Shi gave a briefing on the ACC’s work. He stated that the ACC is willing to further play its role as a bridge between AMS and Hubei in promoting exchanges and cooperation in economy, trade, culture and education, adding fresh impetus to the growth of ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership.
During the visit to Hubei, the delegation had an in-depth exchange of views with leading officials of Department of Education of Hubei Province on strengthening education cooperation. The delegation toured cultural sites such as the Hubei Provincial Museum and the Yellow Crane Tower and also visited related enterprises.
