On 17 November 2023, H.E. Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) met with H.E. Dr. Thet Thet Khine, Minister of Hotels and Tourism of Myanmar and H.E. Mr. Phosy Keomanivong, Vice Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of Lao PDR, who came to attend the ASEAN-China Tourism Investment Seminar.
SG Shi introduced the operation model and role of the ACC, and went through the communication and cooperation between the ACC and different parties in Myanmar and Lao PDR. He expressed the ACC’s willingness to support the two countries to promote tourism resources, and help the outside world to gain a better understanding of ASEAN Member States (AMS). He reiterated the ACC’s commitment to continue to cooperate with these two countries in tourism and other areas.
Dr. Thet Thet Khine noted that there were diversified and rich tourism resources in Myanmar, but many remained unknown to the public. She looked forward to working together with the ACC, to raise the publicity and influence of Myanmar tourism resources through programs such as social-media influencer familiarization trip and capacity building training for practitioners.
Mr. Phosy Keomanivong expressed that tourism is one of the key areas of income of the Laos. He emphasized that the Belt and Road Initiative, especially the Laos-China Railway, had greatly facilitated the circulation of goods and people, including tourists. He thanked the ACC for all its efforts in related areas, and expressed the Ministry’s willingness to work together with the ACC in media, tourism and culture, so as to advance the Laos-China Community of Shared Future.
