The Lao People’s Democratic Republic covers an area of 236,800 square kilometers. It is a landlocked country in the northern part of Indo-China Peninsula, bordered by China to the north, Cambodia to the south, Vietnam to the east, Myanmar to the northwest, and Thailand to the southwest. It has a population of 7.58 million (January 2023). Vientiane is the capital. Lao is the official language. The currency is Kip.
