Secretary General Shi Zhongjun Meets New Ambassador of Thailand to China

On 30 May 2024, Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) met with Ambassador Chatchai Viriyavejakul of Thailand to China. 

Secretary General Shi congratulated Ambassador Chatchai on his assumption of office, extended appreciation to the sustained support to the ACC from the Embassy, and briefed on the latest efforts and future plans of the ACC in promoting ASEAN-China cooperation in 2024. He stressed that, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of ASEAN and China, ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership has secured a steady and sound growth. Recent years have witnessed the deepening political mutual trust, flourishing trade and economic cooperation as well as increasing people-to-people exchanges between both sides. China and Thailand are good neighbors, good partners and good brothers. The saying of “China and Thailand are as close as family members” has long been deeply rooted in hearts and minds of the two peoples. In celebrating ASEAN-China Year of People-to-people Exchanges this year and expecting the 50th anniversary of China-Thailand diplomatic relationship next year, the ACC looks forward to strengthening exchanges and cooperation with the Thai Embassy in such fields as trade, investment, tourism and culture, so as to enhance mutual understanding and appreciation between the two peoples, and add further strength to the building of ASEAN-China and China-Thailand community of shared future.

Ambassador Chatchai expressed his appreciation to the ACC for its bridging role in promoting ASEAN-China and Thailand-China relations. He spoke highly of the vigorous momentum of Thailand-China and ASEAN-China cooperation, and stressed that, with next year being of great significance to Thailand-China relations, the Thai Embassy stands ready to cooperate with the ACC in conducting a series of celebration activities, as well as implementing projects centering on trade and investment cooperation, so as to contribute to the integration of interests between both countries. Ambassador Chatchai reaffirmed the support from both himself and the Embassy for future endeavors of the ACC, and help carry forward Thailand-China friendship and ASEAN-China cooperation with greater depth and breadth.
