On 8 August 2024, Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) attended the ASEAN Day Celebration 2024 at the Philippine Embassy in China, where Ambassador Jaime FlorCruz of the Philippines to China welcomed and addressed the participants. Ambassador Pham Sao Mai of Vietnam, Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun of Indonesia, Ambassador Pehin Dato Rahmani of Brunei, Ambassador Peter Tan of Singapore, Ambassador U Tin Maung Swe of Myanmar, Ambassador Norman Muhamad of Malaysia and other ASEAN diplomatic envoys were present to celebrate the 57th founding anniversary of ASEAN.
Ambassador Jaime reviewed the remarkable achievements made in the building of ASEAN community during the past 57 years, spoke highly of the development of ASEAN-China relations and looked forward to even deeper cooperation between both sides in such areas as trade, investment, agriculture, education, tourism and sustainable development. He also stressed that ASEAN Member States stay committed to actively supporting and participating in the development of the ACC, in the purpose of enhancing mutual trust and exchanges between ASEAN and China, thus serving the advancement of ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership.
During the event, Secretary Shi was also invited to the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a photo exhibition on ASEAN biodiversity.
