On 11 October 2024, the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) co-hosted the ASEAN-China (Xinfadi) Agricultural Products Trade Promotion Conference and the 2nd Xinfadi Agricultural Products Expo in Beijing. Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ACC, Ambassador U Tin Maung Swe of Myanmar to China, Secretary-General Yang Yanyan of the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit Secretariat and Co-Secretary-General of the China-ASEAN Business Council, and Vice President and Secretary-General Hu Suojin of the China Association for International Economic Cooperation attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Secretary Wang Shaofeng of CPC Fengtai District Committee and Director General Piao Xuedong of Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau attended the event. Minister Counsellor for Trade Niqman Rafaee of the Embassy of Malaysia, Minister Counsellor for Agriculture Adhinand Indrapim of Royal Thai Embassy, and Commercial Counsellor Glenn G. Peñaranda of the Philippine Embassy made promotional presentations at the event. Around 260 representatives from the business communities of ASEAN Member States (AMS) and China participated in the event, exchanged views on expanding China-ASEAN agricultural product trade and promoting the quality upgrading of bilateral agricultural cooperation.
Shi Zhongjun stressed that China and AMS share extensive common interests and a solid foundation for cooperation in the agricultural sector, with visible outcomes continuously achieved in recent years. Both sides should work together to establish an efficient and stable ASEAN-China agricultural industrial and supply chain, promote the digitalization of agricultural cooperation, utilize new technologies such as cross-border e-commerce to empower agricultural trade, and jointly realize the sustainable development of regional agriculture.
Ambassador U Tin Maung Swe spoke highly of the significant achievements of ASEAN-China cooperation in agricultural sector, expressing Myanmar's expectation to strengthen exchanges with China and other ASEAN countries, carry out cooperation in the fields of agricultural technology research and development, food safety, and further expand the export of Myanmar's specialty agricultural products to China. Yang Yanyan stated that, in recent years, agricultural cooperation between China and ASEAN has been continuously deepening, with increasingly frequent trade in agricultural products, making ASEAN the China's largest trading partner for agricultural products. The China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit and the China-ASEAN Business Council stand ready to work together with the ACC and the business communities of both sides to provide more opportunities for display and exchange of agricultural products from both sides.
Mr. Niqman Rafaee, Ms.Adhinand Indrapim and Mr. Glenn G. Peñaranda introduced the agricultural development profiles and cooperation opportunities in Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines respectively. They expressed their welcome and anticipation for more Chinese enterprises to engage in agricultural cooperation with their countries.
At the opening ceremony, SG Shi Zhongjun, together with Secretary Wang Shaofeng and other guests, jointly launched the 2nd Xinfadi Agricultural Products Expo. The event also witnessed the unveiling of the "ASEAN Home" project at Xinfadi Market and the signing of a series of agricultural cooperation projects. The guests also visited the ASEAN Speciality Agricultural Products Exhibition and Sales Area.
