From 31 October to 4 November, Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) respectively met with Chinese Ambassador Wang Lutong to Indonesia and Chinese Ambassador Hou Yanqi to ASEAN during his working visit to Jakarta, and exchanged views on promoting Indonesia-China and ASEAN-China relations.
Shi Zhongjun said that Indonesia-China relations and ASEAN-China relations are in a golden period of vigorous development. ASEAN Member States (AMS), including Indonesia, have an increasing demand and willingness for cooperation with China, which has huge potential and broad prospects. Comprehensive, high-level and sustainable ASEAN-China cooperation cannot be achieved without broad and deep public support. The ACC continues to actively coordinate the cooperation needs between AMS and China, and carry out more activities that benefit the development of both sides and bring the peoples closer to each other. The ACC also continues to maintain close communication and cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia and the Chinese Mission to ASEAN.
Ambassador Wang Lutong said that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, China-Indonesia relations have enjoyed sustained and rapid development. Indonesia is now at a critical stage of development, while the new government attaches great importance to developing friendship with China, and China-Indonesia comprehensive strategic cooperation holds great promise. Next year will mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia and the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference. The ACC is expected to make more active contributions to the continuous development of China-Indonesia relations.
Ambassador Hou Yanqi said that under the framework of the ASEAN-China Year of People-to-people Exchanges (ACYPPE) from 2024 to 2025, the Chinese Mission to ASEAN will continue to work closely with the ACC to promote more people-to-people and cultural exchange activities for AMS. It is also expected that the ACC could maintain close contact with Chinese localities, enterprises, etc., and continuously promote China-ASEAN cooperation in emerging industries.
