On 20 October 2023, the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) held the ASEAN-China Cooperation Conference on Agricultural Development and Food Safety in Yantai, Shandong Province. The Conference attracted around 200 representatives from government agencies, chambers of commerce, enterprises and exhibitors from both ASEAN Member States (AMS) and China.
During the conference, the officials in charge of economy and commerce from the Embassies of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia and Myanmar in China introduced agricultural development, characteristic and high-quality products of their countries. Moreover, experts from the China Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Association and the National Center of Standards Evaluation of State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) delivered speeches on the prospect of ASEAN-China Cooperation on Agricultural Development and Food Security, giving detailed explanation especially in the aspect of market access, sustainable development of agro-ecosystem, trade, logistics and standards of agricultural products under the framework of WTO and Free Trade Agreement.
Mr. Guo Chuanwei, Director of the Trade and Investment Division of the ACC, said in his closing remarks that the conference is in line with the theme of 2023 ASEAN-China Year of Agricultural Development and Food Security Cooperation. The exchanges and sharing of the speakers provided beneficial guidance for the AMS and China to carry out practical cooperation in the field of agricultural products, which are more high-quality, in-depth and sustainable.
Before the conference, the delegation from the Embassies of the AMS, including Brunei, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Singapore, visited the exhibition hall of the 21st International Fruit Vegetable Food Expo and attended the opening ceremony.
